Dressmaking Classes

I teach two 10 week Dressmaking classes that begin termly in September, January and April.

The next class schedule begins in April 2024 as follows:

Tuesday 2 hr Class 10 am to 12 pm starts on 23rd April 2024  £200.00

Wednesday 2 hr Class 10 am to 12 pm starts on 24th April 2024  £200.00

The courses run for 10 weeks (with a one week break after week 5 for the school half term holiday)

The Dressmaking courses are suitable for sewing abilities from beginners to improvers and are designed to be creative and fun, in a relaxed and very friendly atmosphere.  Each student learns and works at their own pace by making a dressmaking project they have chosen to suit their ability ie. a tote bag, an apron, a top, blouse, shirt, dress, trousers, jacket or coat.

You will learn:

  • use of your sewing machine, thread choices, needle sizing and different feet.

  • use of an overlocker/serger machine

  • how to choose a suitable commercial dressmaking pattern and correct sizing.

  • how to choose suitable fabrics for your project, and widen your knowledge of fibres and fabrics.

  • taking measurements, altering the pattern, pinning, cutting out and fabric marking methods.

  • use of interfacings and linings where appropriate

  • a wide variety of sewing methods, techniques and fitting help to assemble and complete your garment.

The classes are held in the Four Lanes Room at Viables Community Centre, The Harrow Way, Basingstoke RG22 4BJ

Please note:

If you consider yourself to be an absolute beginner to sewing and have never used a sewing machine before, I recommend you have 1, 2 or 3 private one hour lessons with me before signing up for a course.  This will help you achieve the basics of using a sewing machine and build your confidence quickly.

Private Tuition

I offer one to one sewing tuition in my studio at Viables Craft Centre for £35 per hour.

It's a great way to start learning all about your sewing machine and learn basic dressmaking skills or to get help and advice on more advanced dressmaking skills, projects and overlocker machines.

Please call Sharon on 07880 716593 or email sewfistication@gmail.com for more information.
